The Concept
1.1 - Overview
Forward Footprint will create a unique way of recycling that will change the way America thinks about the estimated 55 million tons of inert waste that it produces annually. Inert waste is comprised of material that is not subject to decomposition or other changes in its physical properties. The most common types of inert waste are concrete, asphalt, brick, rock, and dirt resulting from construction and demolition activities.

As a material recovery facility, we will divert a community’s inert waste from landfill disposal and transform it into a venue for cultural arts and entertainment. Working with the local parks and recreation department, as well as the State Parks and Recreation Commission, we will direct source-separated inert waste to the Eco-Colosseum location. There it will be compacted and formed into a bowl-shaped amphitheatre, then covered in topsoil and planted with grass.

This project will be funded in part by the “dump fees” customarily paid by contractors to dispose of these materials. By combining the needs of the construction industry with those of the community, our company will incorporate green building with recycling. The completed amphitheatre, or Eco-Colosseum, will generate ticket sales, venue rental, concession, and advertising revenue, which will fund its maintenance and operation.

The State of Washington will have a large, environmentally friendly, outdoor amphitheatre, built from the proceeds of its own construction, which will then continue to generate event revenue, provide jobs, and stimulate the economy.. This method of recycling will do more than preserve our environment; it will build and preserve our communities.
It will also attract people from surrounding areas to participate in these exciting events and spend money at local businesses, which will in turn strengthen our economy and create jobs. The Eco-Colosseum has the potential to be the solid waste solution for many growing communities all over the country, and all over the world. The State of Washington has the opportunity to lead by example as a progressive community with sustainable values.
