Forward Footprint presents the Eco-Colosseum

The Concept

1.2 - The Details

Unlike any event center in the Pacific Northwest, the Eco-Colosseum is an environmentally friendly amphitheatre, which is built from 95% recycled materials. Compiled of 225,000 cubic yards of inert material, the Eco-Colosseum will hold up to 14,000 people on approximately 100,000 square feet of grassy slope.

Approximately 59,000 square feet of mezzanine area will contain twenty permanent concession stations of 300 square feet each, 80 ten-by-ten-foot vendor booth spaces available for festivals, and eight restrooms (four men and four women) with a total of sixty toilets. A 6,400 square foot stage building will house the storage facilities, dressing rooms, and event coordination space. Forty-thousand square feet of paved parking is designated exclusively for performer and equipment use, along with secure private access to the stage building and amphitheatre.

Because of the enclosed shape, a unique acoustical phenomenon occurs that amplifies the sound from the stage throughout the venue. This shape not only limits noise pollution from outside sources, but confines the sound within the amphitheatre. Audience members will enjoy events from the grassy slope, where picnics, lawn chairs and blankets can be set up.
